Before you leave, take a moment to enjoy the beautiful courtyard of Averbode Abbey. Walk straight through the Averbode B...os and Heide nature reserve to the toothache chapel. Thanks to the chapel's location near ven Nooitgedacht and the Eikenboschven, this is one of the most beautiful spots in the area. A few kilometers further on you come to the Klompenmuseum via another fen, the Langven. On the other side of the Herseltsesteenweg another piece of Averbode Forest and Heath awaits. Here too you pass some beautiful fens. Via the wooded lane you return to your starting point. Want to end in beauty? Visit the Abbey store and the Abbey café of the experience center Het Moment. Averbode Abbey is the ideal starting point for a varied walk. Before you leave, admire the reflection of the impressive ...abbey church in the mirror pond in the courtyard. Buy an ice cream at the ice cream parlor on the 'lekdreef'. Further on you take the 'Luikerdreef' on your left. Just before KP 1 you briefly leave the junction route. Along a small road on your left you come to the bird hide with a view over the beautiful Munnickxgoor. Return to KP 110 and continue your route on unpaved paths through the nature reserve Averbode Bos en Heide. At the abbey, take a walk along the outer walls. Soon you arrive at experience center Het Moment. In the Abbey Shop and the Abbey Café you will find all kinds of local delicacies. read more

From Gerhagen to the Weaving Mountain

The beautiful abbey of Averbode is the start of your route. Through nature reserve Averbode Bos en Heide you walk to the... Munninckxgoor. From the bird hide you have a magnificent view of this large fens. Nature reserve Gerhagen is the first recognized silence area in Flanders. Climb the watchtower, visit the Forest Museum or stop for a terrace. Return to Averbode Bos en Heide via the Pinnekenswijer. Take a rest at the Klompenmuseum before continuing your trip towards the idyllic Weefbergven and the Weefberg, a real ironstone hill. Your tour ends at Het Moment. read more
