Explore Haspengouw from Hasselt

57.3 km

From the capital of Limburg, this route takes you towards the rolling fruit landscape of Haspengouw. Expect impressive p...anoramas, square farms, quiet church villages and magnificent castles. A blossom splendor in spring, but possibly even more colourful in late summer, when apples and pears are blushing in the plantation. Immerse yourself completely in the story of the fruit region with a visit to the Syrup Factory in Borgloon. Or just pick up syrup waffles for the rest of the route? Towards Diepenbeek, we gradually exchange the fruit landscape for a patchwork of bushes and meadows with relaxing dairy cattle. The final kilometers flow nicely along the Demer river towards the finish in Hasselt. You can shorten the route at node 121 (36 km instead of 58 km). read more

Wilderness in front of the wheels

56.3 km

The mighty Meuse, one of the oldest rivers in the world, shaped this beautiful valley in eastern Limburg. The wild rain ...river gave nature free rein in several places. The Meuse Valley is one of the driest and sunniest regions of Western Europe. The specific soil of gravel and gravel brings forth a lot of beauty, from fragrant herbs to graceful vines. You alternate endless banks with some cultural highlights, such as the town of Maaseik. But if you leave the winter dike and set course for the hinterland, a fresh can of nature opens up. With vast forests, fens, gurgling water mills and land dunes, you traverse Duinengordel. You cycle past the centuries-old Volmolen and through Bergerven, a vast nature reserve with gravel ponds, typical plant life and tough wild grazers. Two unique landscapes combined in a day trip of 57km. Yep, the Limburg Great Outdoors is in front of your wheels! read more

Stage 6: Along canals and be-MINE

68 km

Stage 6 of 6: One last time we crawl on the saddle for the final stage of our multi-day bike tour. We draw our starting ...line in the sand of the Lommel Sahara. We cycle first along the Bocholt-Herentals canal and then from the Blauwe Kei along the canal to Beverlo. Near the garrison town of Leopoldsburg, we take a detour along the Geheserheide nature reserve. Then the terrils of Beringen announce the impressive mining site be-MINE. From mining museum to dizzying climbing walls and an indoor diving center ... you name it, it's here. With oversweet pastries from the Turkish bakery, we cycled along the Coal Railway towards the Albert Canal. On the towpath we set course for Hasselt and at junction 93 we smell our stable... We cross the canal and in the distance we see The Horse Stables of Herkenrode Abbey site. The finish of our Tour de Limbourg is right there on the terrace. One last lap? read more

Stage 5: Woodland with Cycling through the Trees

80 km

Stage 5 of 6: past De Spaanjerd marina and the Maasplassen lakes, we warm our legs again. The longest stage takes us thr...ough the rural north of the province. Fields, meadows, forests, heath and green creek valleys alternate. It is blissful cycling here because ... the countryside is as flat as a buckwheat pancake in Campine. Old water mills and windmills are still spinning as lazily as our pedals. Past Kinrooi, Bree and Peer, we cycle to "Cycling through the Trees" in Hechtel-Eksel. Here we climb to the ten-meter high treetops in National Park Bosland. Via the German military cemetery we ride into Lommel to hit the brakes one last time at the large glass tower of the GlazenHuis ... time for a drink! read more

Stage 3: Castles, mine site and De Wijers

65.6 km

Stage 3 of 6: With the Voer region in the can, we head back north. At the Vroenhoven Bridge we leave the Albert Canal an...d pedal a rather classic stage. Spicy climbs and even a cobbled section lead us to Alden Biesen. Good news, at the top at the Apostle's House we see the plain stretching north of us. From Bilzen, we once again cross the Albert Canal to Zutendaal. With the Lieteberg and Kattevennen, we pass through a few gateways of the Hoge Kempen National Park. Via the creative C-mine, the tasty Vennestraat and the natural pearl the Maten, we make our entrance at Domein Bokrijk where the arrival is at Cycling through Water. Stage 2: Voerstreek

53 km

Stage 2 of 6: During this stage, climbing goats, lightweights or e-bike smarties excel. We head into the Voer region, wh...ere the landscape reveals one magnificent panorama after another, but where you have to get on the pedals to reach those spots. This is how we reach the highest point in Flanders in Remersdaal. Stage 1: Haspengouw

79.5 km

Stage 1 of 6: In the courtyard of Herkenrode Abbey site, we kick off our Tour of Limburg. We make our way through Hassel...t before cycling into fruity Haspengouw. After all, the next few miles along the old Roman road are pretty tough, but are dotted with artful rewards like Helsheaven and Reading between the Lines.
